Day -2
“Mom, it’s a lazy day today”, Ethan said from under the tent-like “fort” we made on the window bed.
Ethan spent the majority of the day on the window bed, resting. He began the day a bit sad when he realized it was Eliot’s birthday today, and he wasn’t there. I reassured him he wasn’t missing any excitement, as we already celebrated when he was home. He talked on the phone a lot to everyone at home…Emma, Eliot, Grandma and Daddy. He wanted to know exactly what everyone was doing. He sand Eliot Happy Birthday over the phone (that’s huge for Ethan, as he doesn’t like songs or singing!). When he found out that Daddy was working in the basement, he asked Grandma, “Grandma, you know how I am in the hospital? Well, can you get a glass of orange juice, bring it to Daddy, and tell him it’s from Ethan?” Ethan loves to get people snacks and drinks when they’re working around the house…
Ethan loved his little fort he was hiding out in, and wanted me to take a picture. Here’s our conversation about that:
Ethan: Mom, take a picture of me in here.Mommy: But Ethan, I don’t have my camera.
Ethan: Uh, Mom, did you forget something?
Mommy: Yeah, my camera…I left it at home.
Ethan: Mom, your phone has a camera. (very smart, like “how could you not remember that?”…)
Mommy: Oh yeah, let me take a picture with my phone!
(Ethan pretends to sleep for the picture, and the picture is taken with phone)
Ethan: Now Mom, put it on the computer.
Mommy: I can’t put a picture from my phone on the computer, it doesn’t work like that.
Ethan: Well can’t you plug your phone into the computer?
Mommy: No, it doesn’t connect…But wait, I can e-mail myself the photo from the phone!
(mommy e-mails herself the photo from the phone)
Mommy: Here’s the photo Ethan…(showing him it on the computer)
Ethan: Now make that photo the wallpaper.
Ethan got a wonderful surprise visit from Mama (Yancy’s mom) this afternoon. They played a tic-tac-toe game, and she caught up on the latest happenings. They hung out a bit while Mommy ran back and forth to the 1st floor to do some laundry. In the evening, Mama headed to Rowley, to hang out with the gang there.
Ethan received his Cytoxan @ 10:30 a.m. , and was very compliant with the peeing today…peeing almost every hour, but was more like every two hours. His blood chemistry levels remained pretty good. They monitor everything so closely, testing every urine output, measuring all levels of liquid intake and output. One thing one slightly elevated (Specific Gravity), but ended up being within normal limits. If it continued to be higher than normal, it would postpone Sunday’s dose of Cytoxan…but no worries yet…
He vomited about 3 times today. Even with all the anti-nausea meds on board, they only do so much. He didn’t eat much at all today. And without eating, his weight went up almost 2 pounds, which is all fluid. Again, this ties into the input/outputs, that they are monitoring very closely.
And, always last, but never least…our baby turned three today. He’s an amazing boy…smart, hysterically funny, tough, yet very cuddly and sensitive…Happy Birthday Eliot! We love you!
