Ethan’s Wish

April 11th, 2008 by admin

One October afternoon, a few weeks after Ethan arrived home from the hospital, while playing outside together near our trees, the kids began concocting an idea for a tree house. “Mom, can you make it today for us?” they asked. Tree house construction is one of the many things I’m not too skilled at. It finally clicked…Make-A-Wish…it was time. I explained the general concept of the Make-A-Wish Foundation to Ethan, and asked him what he would wish for…Ethan wished for a tree house.

In November 2007, two wonderful volunteers came to the house, Mary and John, and got the details for Ethan’s Make-A-Wish. Over the next couple months, Ethan and Mommy designed the tree house, and Mary and John gained approval from the Make-A-Wish board, and found someone who wanted to help out and build the tree house.

This week, on Wednesday, we met with Lee Maserian, an architectural designer from Boxford (a couple towns over), who has generously volunteered to help us out, and make Ethan’s wish come true. Below are his sketches he has drawn up. It is a pirate ship tree house, with a climbing wall, bucket on a pulley, ladder, rope swing, water guns, etc. Ethan loves it, and we’re all looking forward to watch Ethan and the kids play for endless hours on it.

We’ll keep you posted on it’s progress.

    Hi Lent Family!
We were wondering if Ethan was going to make a wish. What an amazing treehouse from such a wonderful organization! We loved looking at the architect’s drawing with everything from a Captain’s deck to port holes. Ethan is going to love to play in his special gift for many, many years to come! How about a pirate picnic in the treehouse complete with Peter Pan peanut butter and Captain Hook pretzels!! Sounds like an afternoon full of imagination for Ethan, Emma and Eliot!!
You are always in our thoughts……..Susan, George, Lindsey and Caroline
