Clinic Visit on Wednesday

January 10th, 2008 by admin

Yesterday we went into Boston for Ethan’s “check up”. He had his first neurology evaluation as an outpatient since his stroke in November. She concurred that there are no residual effects from the stroke, and that no further imaging (MRIs) were needed. She gave the go-ahead to put his magnets for his cochlear implants back in. She would like to see him again in 4 months for a follow-up, and he will remain on aspirin, one a day, for a LONG time. While we still have no evidence of what caused the stroke, she believes the the hole is his heart most likely was a contributing factor.

We then headed into the Jimmy Fund Clinic, where Ethan passed with flying colors! His blood labs resemble the healthiest of children. All counts at perfect levels, also showing great kidney and liver functions. Relief…once again…

We’ll head back in four more weeks, at which point Ethan will have completed the weaning of his immuno-suppressant. We’re still on target for Ethan to be off restrictions in the beginning of May.

Things to look forward to…SPRING! Ethan’s signed up for spring soccer and baseball. Emma’s signed up for travel team soccer in the Spring. In one month I’ll be signing up Eliot for September 2008 Preschool! These sign-ups remind me that we will be back into a “typical” groove before you know it.

Currently our weekdays are getting a bit taxing?…I’m not sure I can find the right word here…but we’re getting a bit cranky, moody, on each others nerves more often than not, etc. It’s getting tough to find a harmonious balance throughout the majority of the day. And the sick part is, if we were given the opportunity to take a break from each other, we’d probably choose not too, as we feel more whole, united, and comfortable when we’re together…even if we’re fighting like cats and dogs.

Anyhow…we’re reminded on days like yesterday, when we get terrific news, how lucky we are, and how well we’re doing. And our chaotic and imperfect days at home, are maybe a bit more perfect than we think.
