Ethan’s coming home tonight!

December 4th, 2007 by admin

It’s been a whirlwind of tests…but Ethan continues to do VERY well. He looks great, he’s walking around, doing everything the physical therapists ask of him with no problem, and of course, causing mischief. He will not require any additional physical therapy at home. He’s 100%.

He goes into the OR today @ 3pm to have his central line removed. We will not be putting his magnets back in today. We’re going to keep them out for awhile, just to be on the safe side. As far as we know, no further MRIs will be required, but we’ve learned….’ya never know!

After the OR, we’ll return back to 6 West, and then be discharged, and home in the evening.

We don’t know what caused Ethan’s stroke. There are no clots detectable anywhere. Tests concluded there were no clots on the central line, but we’re pulling it anyway. It was going to be pulled this month regardless, as Ethan doesn’t need it anymore. Ethan’s spinal fluid that was analyzed shows no leukmic cells…so there is no leukemia in his brain. The spinal fluid was tested for viruses, and all tests were negative. This is all wonderful news.

There are many blood tests still outstanding, and we will learn of these results over the next couple weeks. Ethan will be seen at Clinic tomorrow, and then probably go back to Clinic in two weeks. He will be followed by a neurology doctor in addition to his oncology/transplant doctor.

That’s our quick update…Thank you for keeping Ethan in your prayers…once again, the prayers worked!
