Clinic visit today: Day 122 Post Transplant

December 19th, 2007 by admin

Clinic day today! I’ve never been quite so thrilled to go to the Jimmy Fund Clinic. Now that we go every three weeks, it sometimes feels as though it’s been awhile since we’ve been there.

Ethan has been doing phenomenally well…Ice skating, sledding, playing all day long. His legs look muscular (a fantastic change in appearance from a couple months ago), he eats and drinks well, he’s so excited for the holidays and his birthday. Last night he threw me for a loop though. While I was bathing him, I noticed several bruises on his legs and a couple on his arms. This is how he presented with leukemia initially. Needless to say, last night we were a bit stressed out, and relieved to find out today at clinic that…

ETHAN IS DOING WONDERFULLY! His labs look fantastic, his weight is up to 44 lbs/20 kg… a new record in the last 9 months!

The bruises are probably from being an active “almost” 6 year old boy!…Skating, sledding, etc.

We are on week 4 of a 10 week weaning process, weaning him off of his immunosuppressant (cyclosporine). If all continues to progress well, he’ll be off restrictions in early May.

We’ve recovered from Ethan’s traumatic event (a stroke) a few weeks ago. Still appreciating being home, together. We’re so happy for him he’s doing well. And thrilled to have medical reassurance (blood counts) that he is physically doing well, and isn’t hiding anything inside that Superhero body of his. We still worry…yet we’re happy…and try to live each day with much hope and belief.

We are so happy that Ethan’s tests are showing how WELL he is doing from the inside!! We can sure see how well he is doing on the outside with that famous Ethan grin!!! We have to admit, that we were experiencing “Ethan withdrawl” and were so happy to get the e-mail saying there was more news about our favorite Superhero! We wish you all a very Merry Christmas, and the best 6th birthday the world has ever seen!!
Warm hugs, Susan, George, Caroline and Lindsey
