cozy at home

November 17th, 2007 by admin

We have spent the last week keeping cozy at home, enjoying our visit from Grandma. We mostly stayed at home, but ventured out to Moseley Woods in Newburyport one day. The kids had a blast, and Ethan showed some great physical energy. Check out Moseley Woods pics!.

Grandma cooked some great dishes for us and stocked our freezer, so we may be a bit plumpier next time you see us. Yesterday (Friday) Grandma headed home, and while we were sad to see her leave, her visit was so wonderful it left with with great memories until the next time.

Emma spent the day yesterday anticipating the Pumpkin Ball, which her and Daddy headed out to last night. This in an annual event the school puts on, and one that Emma looks forward to all year. Her and Daddy had a wonderful time. Emma was slightly disappointed that she came in only 4th place in the Hoola Hoop contest :) .

Ethan, Eliot and I watched Shrek the Third for the first time last night. I enjoyed the adult humor and soundtrack, while the kids laughed at many silly parts. I wasn’t terribly impressed with the movie, but didn’t watch Shrek or Shrek 2 in their entirety, so I can’t really compare them.

This will be our first Thanksgiving at our home. I’ll make turkey and per Ethan’s request a ham. Imagine, a turkey and a ham for the 5 of us? YIKES! Talk about plumpy… To make the day a bit more relaxing I ordered side dishes from a friend’s company that has yummy ready-to-cook meals, Dinner’s Done. I’ll only make our turkey, ham and stuffing. We’ll spend the day playing games, eating, and hanging out. Ethan and Emma and I are big “game people”, and our current favorites are Set, a visual perception card game, Balloon Lagoon, a carnival game which Eliot can play and enjoy too, and Emma and I like Scrabble.

Now that Ethan’s feeling really well, with constant energy throughout the day, school work is getting easier. We’re covering all of Ethan’s Kindergarten work sent home from Mrs. Budd, and Emma is covering a lot of ground with her work. To date, I have been mostly following workbooks/textbooks for her, but am really excited to look into more fun projects and interested curriculum for her. I will venture to the library for the FIRST TIME today, and pick up some new reading materials for the kids. Soccer ends today for Emma, she is excited to play today, although it’s very chilly here. We’ll have to look into a new winter activity for her after this. She needs an outlet for her energy and a way to get some exercise. Speaking of exercise and energy, kids are getting restless, gotta’ run…

Looks like there are a few rock climbers in the making! They’ll be ready for El Capitan before you know it.

We’ll miss you for Thanksgiving. Thoughts are with you and hope to see everyone soon.

Johanna, I always love the beautiful photos you take of the children, but this group of the “Pumpkin Ball” is particularly stunning. Right down to the gorgeous rose wrist coursage, Emma, Ethan and Eliot are simply glowing. Ethan looks like a different child, filled with delicious home-cooked meals, and the love and warmth of his family. Emma’s dress is so lovely, and Yancy is a very proud father indeed. We wish you all a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Warm hugs, Susan, George, Lindsey and Caroline
