Calling all Platelet Heroes!

November 6th, 2007 by admin

One of our Top Platelet Heroes got a call recently…Children’s Hospital is running low on platelets! If you are a Platelet Hero, or want to become one, and you are in Boston, or can get there easily, you can make a difference!

While we are so fortunate to be home, not a day goes by when we don’t think of the children still in the hospital. For months now, Emma has been wanting to sell cider to raise money for Children’s Hospital. Finally, she teamed up with Daddy, and Sunday they sold cider! She raised $24 and is donating it to the Activity Room / Playroom on 6 North (Oncology unit). This is where Ethan spent many fun days, and Emma and Eliot joined him too, finding comfort there. It meant a lot to Emma to have a fun place to go while she spent time in the hospital.

A SIGN?…A man slowed his motorcycle and pulled over to buy a cup of cider. Daddy asked him if this was his last ride of the season, it being November 4 and all. The man replied, “No, I don’t put it away until November 11.” Daddy inquired further, to maybe learn a little more about motorcycling. The man explained that November 11 is the day he received his bone marrow transplant from his younger brother eight years ago. So, he keeps his bike out until that day every year. And this conversation came about without the man knowing about Ethan, the brother of the little girl selling cider.

He wasn’t even from Rowley, just happened to be driving by…

I have chills reading this amazing entry! The man on the motorcycle rode by for a reason….and that is to share his story of recovery. He could have taken any other road, but he took the road that went by YOUR house. If that is not a sign, I don’t know what is!!

Warm hugs, Susan, George, Caroline and Lindsey
