Reliving a Great Day

March 29th, 2012 by Yancy

There was this one day from my childhood that i remember like it was yesterday. It was pretty simple, I got a new bike and went out to a James Bond movie. This paste weekend I was able to relive that day through my sons.

We even saw the same move, Octopussy on DVD; and we all crashed in the living room after the movie was over.

Life is good!

It’s been awhile…

July 29th, 2011 by Johanna

I thought it might be time to revisit this site. Needs some updates! We’ll blame it on the fact that I went back to work last November, and a few things have fallen by the wayside. Thankfully, you can’t see the bedrooms of our house!

The five of us, and Sage, are very healthy, and typically happy. School ended in mid June, concluding another wonderful year. Emma moves on to middle school for 7th grade, Ethan moves up to 4th grade, and Eliot enters 2nd grade!

We are enjoying summer, although this working during the summer thing is getting difficult to adjust to! Our simple pool is proving to be much fun. The kids are in and out of it all day.

We have a busy August coming up: Ethan gets his new cochlear implant processors on Monday (very sleek, and lighter design); the fourth Ethan Lent Annual Golf Tournament is on Wednesday, in CT, and we all head to Sturbridge on Friday for the PMC.

Many, many generous supporters have helped me achieve my fundraising minimum. Yancy is $1800 away from his minimum. If you haven’t donated, and are able to, please click here (you can send checks to us as well).

My intention is to get back to regular updates and pictures. Stay tuned!

A quintessential autumn day in New England

October 17th, 2010 by Johanna

We made a three hour trek to Haydenville, MA today…for a Labradoodle reunion! We traveled back roads from the north shore, to the Berkshires. Sage loved visiting with over 50 of her relatives…the moppets flounced and bounced around the scenic farm.

While all the dogs are hug-gable and lovable, we agree Sage is the perfect fit for our family…

Three years later…

August 28th, 2010 by Johanna

Ethan received his bone marrow transplant on August 20, 2007. On Wednesday, August 25, 2010, Ethan had his three year post transplant appointments. A day in Boston with several exams and tests conclude he has well-functioning blood, heart and lungs. He is a very healthy 8 1/2 year old boy. Our happiness is unmeasurable…

3 Years Ago Today

May 7th, 2010 by Yancy

This is what the Love of my Life sent out today to all her friends, I was speechless.

It was 3 years ago today…May 7, 2007…

The pediatrician called me into the office with Ethan, and told me my little boy had leukemia.  While I don’t consider myself an overly religious person, my first response, reflex rather, was to make the sign of the cross and ask God to watch over us.  My disbelief lasted for all of 5 seconds, and my fighting instincts kicked in.  We had a plan.

The “plan” included Children’s Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, amazing doctors, nurses and support staff.  “Psych-social” help for Mom and Dad, sibling groups for Emma, meals to gather as a family…And the treatment plan…LIFE SAVING.  The odds were against Ethan…he beat the odds.  He is now almost 3 years in remission.

It’s my mission to give back…In three months, on August 7 and 8, I will ride the Pan Mass Challenge (PMC) 2010.  This 192 mile bike ride from Sturbridge to Provincetown, MA:

  • raises money for life-saving cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
  • gives 100% of all dollars raised to the Jimmy Fund

Yancy and I are eternally grateful to have our son with us today.  Our heart breaks for the families that lost their children.  We are riding for a cure.

I don’t like asking people for things, especially money.  This cause however, is so near and dear to us, that I will go out of my comfort zone.  If you could make a donation, it would mean a great deal.  Any amount is appreciated.  I realize that not everyone is in a position during these times to make a donation.  Please help spread the word.  It’s an amazing cause…Unfortunately, it touches all of us in some way.

To make a much appreciated donation, click here:  http://www.pmc.org/profile/JL0283 to read my story, or click here to get to the donation form:  https://www.pmc.org/egifts/giftinfo.asp?Paceline=donate&eGiftID=JL0283 . Thank you for your support.

With love and great hope,

Johanna Lent

little tummies

April 14th, 2010 by Johanna

While the past few weeks have been refreshing, enjoying new found sun, fresh outdoor air, running, biking and ball playing…the little ones have been fighting off a few viruses. Over the last four weeks, not a day has gone by without a tummy ache, throwing up, fever, etc. Em, Ethan and El have each missed at least one day of school this week. The good news? They’re on the mend, resting well, and starting to eat a bit better. And, while my patience are wearing thin with orders and whining, I have really enjoyed having the kids home this week. The sick days have been relaxing and enjoyable, paring back our extracurricular activities quite a bit. New found activities replace them: from relaxing beach walks, to cupcake baking, reading new books from the library, to catching up on chit-chat…The days remind me slightly of our home-school days a couple years ago…in a nice way.

So, to these viruses we can’t seem to kick, please go away…And to these relaxing sunny days, filled with happiness, comforts of home and togetherness, please come every day.
